Did you renew your small group health plan with your current insurance carrier because your broker told you there was nothing better available?
A little background:
- From 1996 to about 2003 there were many companies I could offer, and I usually would approach a business owner with the opportunity to save money by changing carriers.
- From 2004 to 2012, the number of companies offering group health in TN dwindled to just a few major carriers and they all offered coverage at about the same price. It was very difficult to get a business to change insurance companies. I sold policies mainly to new companies during this time.
- From 2013-2017, the majority of small businesses had “grandmothered” plans and no one would switch carriers.
- Now in 2018, if you currently have an ACA small group plan with 5 to 50 employees, there is now one of the best opportunities to reduce premiums and maintain comparable coverage that I have ever seen and I’ve been in the health insurance business for 22 years. One of my clients reduced their renewal premium by almost $40,000 per year.
If you switch carriers, pre-existing conditions will be covered and deductible met in 2018 will be credited.
